Heat may not destroy all the alkaloids. I read the instructions to kratom tea and that calls for boiling it which is about 212 oF plus. Baking it into brownies might work but that’s around 350 or so. Never tried, don’t think I would. If you enjoy the taste of kratom then more powder.

Cooking with Kratom was new to me, until tonight.

Since I am nearly weened off a multi year Hydrocodoneregimen, I decided to combat the withdrawal symptoms I was experiencing with 3.3g of finely powdered Maeng Da Kratom. This proved to be a nice dose when consumed a few days back by a more traditional method of ingestion; dumping the powder in thy mouth and chasing it with any available liquid. Cold coffee was the best choice discovered this far. Sugar and french vanilla creamer, thanks.

Tonight I wanted to see what the otherwise fairly nasty tasting herb would be like when distributed over dinner.

*First I decided on what to eat. I fancy a high protein diet so I reached for a steak that had been marinating in soy sauce for twenty four hours. I added a bit of McCormick’s Spicy Montreal Steak Seasoning to the steak to give it a nice punch. I grilled it up, cooking it to a medium rare consistency. I like my steak a little bloody, just not still mooing.

*Secondly, I made a nice crab salad using chopped up celery, macaroni, mayonnaise and plenty of lump crab meat which I shredded before mixing in the salad.

*Lastly to add some green to the plate. I grabbed a little romaine lettuce and creamy Caesar salad dressing and tossed that baby about with a fork.

3.3g of powdered Maeng Da Kratom was then evenly distributed amongst the 3 food portions and serenaded over each, tossed, then placed on the dinner plate. The result was amazing and nothing short of delicious. I am sharing this because this herb, which is nicely psychoactive, has the potential to add a unique taste when mixed with other foods in these proportions.

I would not do this with any other Kratom except the Maeng Da variety. This is primarily because of the percentage of mitragynine (9-methoxy-corynantheidine) found in Maeng Da which is considerably higher than other more common varieties such as Bali Kratom. In my opinion I would need 2 to 3x as much Bali Kratom to achieve the same effects which would be overkill for cooking.

My thoughts on Kratom are simple and straightforward. This psychoactive plant is a great plant and has more potential for mankind then it does for harm to society. With all psychoactive plants, responsibility and moderation is fundamental when considering it’s safety to humans. It certainly does the job for me when it comes to dodging the withdrawal symptoms prescribed opiate use lends themselves to. I am down to (1) 10mg Lortab per day, starting today. I have used Kratom very sporadically since 2005.
